This is in my list of one of the best 25 songs ever. The piano part is beautiful and the lyrics are fantastic. One of my favorite songs by BJ.

@JSwanKilowJ I just happend to have seen this when it was on TV. Whats actually interesting is that it isnt trasposed. He’s playing it in the original key, but using an electric piano and changing the key on the sound boards (he talked about this durin the show).

all your comments about the transposed key and the lack of fire are right…I also noticed he was flat for most of the first verse, and also hit a couple of notes sharp..ow!..But,I love Billy Joel’s music, it was a part of my adolescence, and I guess it’s a bit sad..

this song is about our friend buddy bullatta, billy’s neighbor in highland falls ny, buddy died after falling asleep on the train tracks near their homes.
i will say it was along weekend, ending riding motorcycles down by the tracks, and after someones turn took to much time, buddy sat down on the track waiting, the rest of us waited away from the tracks in a grassy areaand we all fell asleep waiting our turn, the trains whistle wasn’t able wake us up in time to grab buddy, a heavy sleeper.

One of the best songs ever written !!!!! Relationships are made and learnt from this song. Love the Piano part to this song.
